Installing Illustrator and Photoshop CC on Arch

As you might know, I have been setting up a new Arch installation as of late. Today, I was looking into installing my Adobe toolset on here, only to learn that Adobe doesn't support it. However, by using a few tricks, we can actually get both Illustrator and Photoshop running on our installation, thanks to these two handy repos for Illustrator and Photoshop by Viktor Ghorbali. Can we get them running?

Well, not quite, because while these repos do work, there are a few minor tweaks we have to make to get them to work! Let's start with Illustrator since it's easier as of right now. However, be sure to read both because there are a few things we shall touch on in the Illustrator installation that will be glossed over in the Photoshop installation.

Installing Illustrator

To install Illustrator, we need to run a few shell commands. You can find the full guide and requirements for using Viktor's script here.

First, let's install Wine and Winetricks:

sudo pacman -S wine winetricks

Then, we clone the repo and chmod the script:

git clone https://github.com/Gictorbit/illustratorCClinux.git
cd illustratorCClinux
chmod +x setup.sh

Usually, we would run the script; however, we need to change one line in the script to get it to work. The file we need to edit can be found at this path: ~/illustratorCClinux/scripts/illustratorSetup.sh.

We want to change the link in line 68 to this link.

Now, we can run the script:

./setup.sh

You should be greeted with a CLI:

Let's choose option 1.

After the script runs for a bit, this window should pop up:

This is the Wine configuration for the application we are installing, in this case, Illustrator. Let's change the Windows Version to Windows 7, hit apply and OK, and let the script continue.

And just like that, we have Illustrator CC installed!

Installing Photoshop

Alright, now we will install Photoshop, which will actually be a bit of a longer installation.

First, we need to once again clone the repo and chmod the script:

git clone https://github.com/Gictorbit/photoshopCClinux.git
cd photoshopCClinux
chmod +x setup.sh

This time, instead of editing the link in the setup script, we need to download two files since their links are broken. One is photoshopCC-V19.1.6-2018x64.tgz, and the second is replacement.tgz. We then want to place these files in ~/.cache/photoshopCCV19. If the file doesn't exist, create it.

Once done, we can run the script:

./setup.sh

You should be greeted with a CLI:

Let's choose option 1.

Again, after the script runs for a bit, this window should pop up:

Let's do the same thing we did for Illustrator, then hit apply and OK.

Now, we can sit back and let the installation run, just like last time.

Sidenote: This installation will have a lot of popups for different requirements for installation, such as Microsoft C++, etc. Please install them.

And with that, you have successfully installed Photoshop CC on Arch!
